A Loss to Wingate Ends the Season

Hey everyone! We just arrived home from Wingate, North Carolina, which was the site of the Southeast Region NCAA Tournament. We made Montevallo history as we were the first team in ten years to make it to the NCAA tournament and we were the very first team to win a game in the NCAA tournament. It was a great experience for everyone involved.
The first round of the NCAA tournament, we played Lincoln Memorial. It was a tough battle, but we came out on top as we won 3-1. It was an awesome game and everyone played their hearts out. Our next match was against number one ranked Wingate. It was a very intense game at each of the sets had a difference of four points or less. Everyone played extremely well with not only passion and heart, but with intensity. Even though we played hard, we did not come out on top as we lost to Wingate 3-1. It was a tough loss but everyone was proud of our accomplishments and how well we played. All in all, this season was a very memorable season for the Falcons! We will take some time off and get back to work in the spring. Until next year, GO FALCONS!

We Made It!

Hey everyone! I have a lot to catch you up on. The last time I posted we had just finished up the regular season and were getting ready for conference. Overall the Conference Tournament went well. The first night we beat Francis Marion in five games. We then proceeded to play Armstrong Atlantic in the semi-finals. We lost the first two sets and battle back to win the third and fourth set. The deciding fifth point came down to the wire and unfortunately we came up short handed. Everyone was disappointed on how it turned out, but happy that we fought to the very end. We left Armstrong Atlantic that night with a lot of uncertainty. We were not sure if our season was over or if we would get a bid to the NCAA tournament. The answer came Sunday night as everyone crowded around their computer to see the announcement that we had made it. After the announcement we had to get ready for a short week of class and practice. We practiced Tuesday night and Wednesday morning and then left Montevallo Wednesday after practice to head to Wingate, NC. We had practice this afternoon at Wingate and everyone is back in their rooms preparing for tomorrow. We take on Lincoln Memorial tomorrow night. Ill let you know how it goes. Until next time, Go Falcons!

Senior Weekend

Hey everyone!
It has been a busy week and  weekend so I am going to give you a quick update. Last weekend we played on Friday and Saturday. Friday we played against University of South Carolina Aiken. After a good win we took the court Saturday for our Senior Game. Before the game we honored Rebecca and Kara as it would be their last time playing in the gym. After honoring them, we played Lander and it ended up in a disappointing loss. It was a tough loss but everyone agreed to get past it and improve. We have had a good week of practice this week and leave tomorrow for conference. Everyone is excited. I will let you know how it goes. Until then, Go Falcons!

Dig Pink/Halloween Weekend

Hey everyone! Last week was an awesome week for the Falcons. It started off Tuesday night as we traveled to the University of West Alabama. After a tough battle, we came out on top in the fifth game. It was a great feeling to finish off a close match. After the West Alabama game, we had the Wednesday off then two more practices in order to prepare for the weekend.
This weekend was very eventful as two games were our Dig Pink games and one was our Halloween game. Saturday's games were are designated Dig Pink games. T-shirts and sweets were sold at the gate and all the proceeds went to breast cancer research. We also played in pink socks, pink pre-wrap, and Dig Pink tattoos on our arms. We played two games that day. The first one was a conference game against the University of North Carolina Pembroke. We came out strong and defeated them 3-0. We then had a thirty minute break before we played a regional game against Stillman College. We dominated the first set and then had some fun in the second and third games. We ended up winning 3-0.
On Sunday, we decided to bring the Halloween festivities on the volleyball court. We had a costume contest for young children who attended the game. After the second set, the children came onto the court for everyone to see their costumes. The fans voted on the best costume. As far as the game, we defeated our conference foe, Francis Marion 3-0. Overall, it was an exciting and eventful week and weekend, as we went 4-0. Three more games coming up this week. The Conference Tournament is just around the corner!
Until next time, Go Falcons!

The Falcons are Back

Hey everyone! We just got back from a tournament in Aiken, South Carolina. We came back 3-1, with one conference win against Augusta State. We left Montevallo on Thursday afternoon and headed to the University of South Carolina at Aiken. Friday morning we woke up and had a great breakfast at the hotel and the headed to the gym. First, we played Augusta State for a conference matchup. We were a little slow but we beat them 3-1. We then had two hours to rest before taking the court against King College. We put up a tough fight but lost 1-3. It was then back to the hotel for a good night rest. Saturday morning we first took the court against Coker College. With a lot of energy and intensity, we beat them 3-0. It was then time to take on Palm Beach Atlantic for our last match of the tournament. It was an awesome game for both the fans and the players. Everyone played awesome and the energy and spirit on the court was amazing. We beat them 3-0. Everyone was excited about the weekend and glad that “the falcons are back.” We survived our month of traveling and everyone is really excited to be at home for the next two weeks. Until next time, Go Falcons!

Our Season Starts Today

Hey everyone! We just got back from a tough weekend. We started practice this week with a new attitude, “our season begins today.” Therefore, in our minds, the season began this weekend. We started out this week of practice with some conditioning and tedious skills, just like we would do in preseason. After a week of practice, we loaded the bus Thursday afternoon and headed toward Savannah, GA. Friday morning was spent sleeping in, eating at Olive Garden, and walking around the mall. That night we took on Armstrong Atlantic. We started off really rough as we were down the first game. We bounced back and won the second game, but couldn’t seem to come out on top for the third and fourth games. It was an extremely tough loss as it was our first conference loss this season.  Despite the loss, we had to load the bus and travel down to St. Augustine to play Flagler. It was Flagler’s Dig Pink game, so in honor of the game we wore pink socks. With it being their Dig Pink game, Flagler had an excellent crowd and came out pumped up. Unfortunately, we lost the first game and could never regain our momentum.  We ended up losing our second conference game 0-3. Yet again it was a very tough loss. As our coaches mentioned in the locker room after the game, “we have to learn from it.” With that in mind, we will have a hard week of practice next week to prepare for our tournament in Aiken, SC next weekend. Until next time, Go Falcons!

First Round of Conference Completed

Hey everyone! This week was a full and busy week for us as we played four games this week, all on the road.
Tuesday started off the week as we traveled to the University of Alabama Huntsville. This was a nonconference match up and was UAH’s dig pink game. The stands were packed at UAH and caused some trouble for us. We did not play our best and ended up being embarrassed 0-3. It was an extremely tough loss and an eye opener for everyone. Needless to say, Wednesday and Thursday we hit the court hard in preparation for the weekend.
The weekend consisted of one conference matchup at Lander and two regional games against Wingate and Anderson.
We left Montevallo Thursday afternoon and arrived in Lander late that night. We slept in Friday and had a lunch at a local restaurant. Next, we walked around a local farm for a couple of hours. We enjoyed feeding goats, llamas, and catfish along with playing with dogs and looking at peacocks. After a couple hours, we spread out our blankets and had study hall for an hour on the farm. That night we played Lander. After beating them 3-0, we quickly loaded the bus for Wingate.
Saturday morning we woke up and headed to the gym. First, we played Anderson.  We lost the first two games but then picked it up and ended up winning the match in five.  After beating Anderson, we had to take a quick break and get ready for Wingate. The game against Wingate was a very big regional matchup. Unfortunately we lost 0-3. It was a tough loss. As always we will enjoy Sunday off then hit the gym hard. Next week begins the second round of conference.
Until next time, Go Falcons!
