And so it begins....

Hey everyone! We just played our first volleyball tournament of the season this past weekend in Lakeland, Florida.  Even though the results were not as successful as we would have liked, we came back with new goals and great memories. As some of you might know, we have a very young team this year, with eight underclassmen.  This gives our team a lot of learning oppertunities and a lot of room to grow into the team we are fully capable of!!
After weeks of two-a-days and plenty of team bonding activities everyone was excited to finally start playing games. We practiced at Florida Southern College on Thursday in order to get used to the court and our playing location. Games finally started on Friday morning as we took on Missouri S&T. With it being our first officical game, everyone was both nervous and excited. Unfortunately, we fell to Missouri S&T 0-3. We quickly had to forget about that loss and prepare ourselves for the next game against Southwest Baptist later Friday afternoon. It was a tough battle with Southwest Baptist but we got the short end of the stick when we lost in the 5th game. Saturday consisted of two more matches against the host, Florida Southern College and Angelo State. We played hard in both matches, but it wasn't enough as we fell short to both teams. Everyone was disappointed in our losses, but feel as though we improved in each game.
We concluded our weekend with a trip to Universal Studios in Orlando. The entire team was excited about the trip, as many players had never been there before. Everyone was especially excited for the new Harry Potter park! We spent about six long hours in the park and then we loaded the bus to head back to Montevallo. Even though the bus ride back was long, it was filled with sleeping, homework, games, and laughter!
While we enjoy Labor Day off from classes, we are hitting the weights and court hard in preparation for our next tournament this weekend in Aiken, South Carolina.
Until next time, Go Falcons!
